Diabetic Retinopathy – Blindness for Diabetics

What family and friends of diabetics don’t know is one of the scariest possibilities that comes with having diabetes mellitus – diabetic retinopathy. According to the Mayo Clinic, at first there can be no symptoms of any eye problems — even if you have symptoms of diabetes. Symptoms of diabetic retinopathy include:

-Blurry Vision

-Color blindness

– Dark or bright spots

Make sure to see a doctor if you are diabetic and are having any problems with your eyes or vision.

It is important to know that this can happen to anyone with diabetes mellitus – individuals with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.

According to the National Eye Institute, diabetic retinopathy is caused when damage to the blood vessels in the retina are affected by chronically high blood sugar.

If you already have type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, or if you have symptoms of diabetes or prediabetes – It is very important to start eating a diabetic diet so that you can avoid this very scary condition.
