There’s a wonderful section of diabetes history that discusses the three humanitarian scientists from Toronto that patented the original insulin treatment for only $3 so it could be accessible to everyone. However, now that the patent has expired, pharmaceutical companies are driving the costs of insulin vials through the roof.
